Understand Change

During menopause, you are going to undergo lots of changes. If you are unsure that you are experiencing menopause, there are many early menopause symptoms to be aware of, such as hot flashes, irregular periods, and night sweats. It is a natural process that every woman eventually goes through, so there is no need to be fearful. Understand changes are taking place within your body and you are perfectly normal!

Stop Smoking Or Drinking Frequently

As most know, smoking is extremely harmful to your lungs and health. In fact, two-thirds of smokers will die from cigarette-triggered illnesses. If you haven’t given up smoking yet, menopause is a great time to do so. Additionally, as metabolism slows down,   drinking will have a far greater effect on you compared to when you were 21 years old. Drinking less frequently will have a positive effect on your health and won’t make you feel lethargic or hungover the next day. With this said, you don’t have to give up drinking completely, instead limit the amount of drinks to one or two. Over four drinks a week can actually increase your cancer risk.

Exercise Daily

Exercise daily to lift mood and help regulate your hormones and reduce stress or inflammation. Exercise helps widen your thermoregulatory zone in your brain, which makes body temperature fluctuations more comfortable. Therefore, if you experience hot flashes you won’t feel as severe of a result of it. Focusing on resistance training like lifting weights or using resistance bands will ensure that your muscles stay strong throughout the aging process. Often as we age, our muscles get weaker leading to injury or balance issues. Remember that something as simple as a walk or light stroll can count as exercise for the day.

Continue Routine Screenings

Routine screenings such as monthly breast exams and pap smears to make sure everything is in order. You will be grateful that you caught something early on if there is a problem. You may also want to consider getting a dermatologist that you trust so you can screen for skin cancer or other skin-related illnesses. Overall, it is never a bad idea to visit the doctor, even if there is nothing wrong. They can also help give you some health tips and tricks to remain balanced during menopause.

Practice Healthy Stress Relief

An enjoyable activity like yoga, journaling, or meditation is great for stress relief. It is critical you practice some sort of stress relief during this time, as your hormones may cause you anxiety and stress. There are lots of changes going on in your life right now that you should take some time out of your day for some self care. Activities like meditation have significant health benefits for menopause and life beyond this stage. Start off slow and understand that even 10 minutes of stress-relief time can be useful to your daily health.

Take Care Of Your Bones

Health experts recommend that post-menopausal women start being screened for osteoporosis at age 65 or 60 for higher-risk women. Include calcium, vitamin D, and exercise into your diet to keep your bones healthy and reduce your risk of osteoporosis. Bone health is critical for women to maintain healthy function throughout the rest of your life.
