As Thanksgiving is approaching and Christmas just around the corner Twittermoms.com and Nickelodeon want to know what 5 things are your favorite to do with your kids for the holidays in a “Dora Christmas Carol Contest” (a chance to win a $100 Amex giftcard!). If your little ones like Dora, she has a new show coming on Dec. 6th (only on nickelodeon) at 8pm EST called Dora’s Christmas Carol Adventure.
My great grandma spent many years living in a place called Heritage Towers. She passed away when I was 18. Every Christmas after that my family has put together fruit gift bags (decorated by children) and with permission from H.T. we would deliver them to every apartments door and just leave them there. For a long time we never got “caught” by any of the residents until a couple years ago. To see the faces of some of them made me feel so good. I dont know any of their stories as to why they live there or if any of them do anything for the Holidays but just to see someone feel joy makes it all worth it. Little B has been doing this with us for 4 years and Baby B has even made a trip. I don’t know if we will make the trip this year but I sure hope so.
Little B and I have other Christmas things we like to do together. I take him to ride the train that they have in the center court of our mall. We don’t do the whole Santa thing and luckily in 5 years he has not asked who the big guy is though we have seen him just about everywhere. Little B loves trains so to let him ride by him self he thinks he is Mr Big Stuff. I stand along the fence and watch him smiling and waving as big as he can as the train makes its way by. To see him so happy makes my heart melt. No cares, no worries, just my “baby” growing up into a big boy.
We also do little homemade crafts. His favorite so far has been making paper snowflakes. We cut them out and tape them to our windows of the house. He says that each snowflake is different just like me and him. We also enjoy making cookies. Well I enjoy making them and he enjoys eating them. I also enjoy taking holiday pictures of the boys to put in Christmas cards each year. Little B is a big ham when it comes to pictures though Baby B is a different story.
Daddy B’s side of the family lives in WV and my side lives an hour away so we always travel for the Holidays. Grandma B has been ill since May so this very well may be her last holidays with us. We will be visiting her and the rest of the B’s for Thanksgiving. I hope that whatever it is that you and your children do to celebrate the holidays that you enjoy the time well spent.
